RESEARCH DOCUMENT:
SUPERPOSITION AND SUPERIMPOSITION;
IN-BETWEEN THE TRACES
OF AN URBAN FABRIC

Superposition and superimposition: in-between the traces of an urban fabric is a  title of my reserach docuemnt (dissertation equivalent). The brief required to choose two precedents studies one from before and one after the 19th century that were connected by the same topic and prove that they act as an ‘architecture as educator’. The aim of this project was to learn research methods: how to excavate the past to build the now and to study the fundamental principles and normative conditions as well as to  improve conceptualization: to see architecture not as a building but a vision of the world. The writings were supported by analytical visuals.

After extensive readings about baroque and modernsim I decided to focus on Piranesi and his Campo Marzio comparing it with Parc de La Villette by Bernard  Tschumi. I was interested in the use of layering as a way go against traditional urbanism with ideas connected to trace, diagram, in-between, collage and assemblage. I based my research on essays by Peter Eisenman, writings from Pierre Vittorio Aureli and book by Bernard Tschumi.

The visuals were created as collages and photo assemblages to create a connection with the writing.

In the portofolio you can read a paragraph from analysis on Campo Marzio
and Parc de La Villette.
